Piano Collections: Stravinsky, Copland & Ginastera

(February 2008)

Three new collections of piano music from leading 20th century composers have just been published, offering exciting single volume surveys of Stravinsky, Copland and Ginastera.

Stravinsky Piano Collection
includes 14 easier works for the intermediate pianist and concert works for the seasoned performer, including the Sonata, Serenade in A, and Three Movements from Petrushka.

Copland Piano Collection
15 works including Piano Sonata, Piano Variations, Four Piano Blues and Three Moods.
Copland's keyboard music offers a different side to the composer of Appalachian Spring or Fanfare for the Common Man. Piano was his first instrument, and therefore offered his most natural vehicle of expression as he developed an individual musical voice. This experimentation is apparent in the Passacaglia, written when a student of Nadia Boulanger in Paris, the special effects of the Piano Variations or the popular music influences in the Piano Sonata or Four Piano Blues.

Ginastera Piano Collection
includes Piano Sonatas Nos.1-3, Pequena Danza, Rondo on Argentine children's folk-tunes and Suite de danzas criollas.
