Karl Jenkins's Stabat Mater tours the UK this autumn, conducted by the composer.Karl Jenkins conducts his new Stabat Mater on an eight-concert UK tour this autumn (21 Sep - 15 Nov), following its highly successful premiere in March and its release on CD by EMI Classics. The programme, also featuring La Folia for marimba and strings and Palladio, is performed by the Karl Jenkins Festival Orchestra & Chorus conducted by Jenkins and John Gibbons.

Known for looking to other cultures for inspiration, Jenkins has taken the traditional Christian Stabat Mater text – already set to music by such diverse composers as Palestrina, Haydn and Verdi – and infused it with Middle Eastern influences. As well as the Christian text (sung in English and Latin) Jenkins has incorporated ancient Middle Eastern writings which are sung in Aramaic and Greek.
The performance uses a traditional orchestra and choir augmented by ancient percussion instruments and the intriguing “duduk” and features soloist Belinda Sykes from EMI’s best-selling CD of the work.
