Getting started using Scorch 2:
a) Download and Install the Scorch 2 sheet music
viewer. It is less than a megabyte and you only have to do this once. You
can download it here. When you download
programs from the Internet, sometimes Internet Explorer or Netscape ask you
if you want to save it to your hard disk or whether you want to install it as
it downloads. It is up to you. The easiest option is to install it as it downloads.
b) Install Scorch 2, if it has not already been installed.
On your computer, browse to where you downloaded it and double click the icon.
Scorch 2 will install itself automatically.
c) Try a free test print to check that everything
has installed correctly, that Scorch 2 can communicate with your printer, and
that your printer is installed correctly. You can do that by viewing a
free piece of sheet music. Try to print it. If it prints without any
problem, then you should be able to see all the other sheet music at our site.
If you have any problems viewing the scorch file,
there is a list of possible causes supplied by Sibelius.
to view the list. This includes solutions to problems encountered with
Internet Explorer 5.5 and 6.
Searching through our music to buy and print:
Use the search box to search by composer, title or
by instrument. Just click on the title of a piece of sheet music to see a preview
and get more information about it.
Previewing a piece of music:
Click on its title. Assuming that you have the Scorch
2 sheet music viewer installed this will take you to a page which shows a preview
of the sheet music, and will provide other details about that piece of music,
including price, and an 'Add To Basket' button. In some cases you can print
the first page as a sample. This is a good idea to check your printer is set
up correctly.
Interacting with the sheet music:
Just above the sheet music on your screen there is
a toolbar. This allows you to interact with the sheet music. For example, you
can usually play an audio clip of the sheet music, or even transpose it to another
key.
Buying a piece of sheet music:
You click the 'Add To Basket' button, then follow
the on screen instructions. You will be taken to the Basket page, then the Checkout
page where you provide payment details. Once your order has been accepted you
will return to the page with the sheet music on it and be able to print out
the entire piece.
Payment methods:
Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Delta, Switch
and Solo. Since our digital products are delivered to your printer in just a
few seconds, we regret we cannot accept cheques and postal orders etc.
Printing the sheet music:
Immediately after your order has been accepted you
will be redirected to a page where you can print the sheet music. Just press
the 'Print' button on the Scorch 2 toolbar immediately above the sheet music
(NOT the print button on your browser toolbar).
NOTE: If you have purchased multiple copies of a
piece of sheet music you must print them all in one go.
You have paid for the right to print out the sheet
music once. Note that you don't get: the ability to save the sheet music file
to your hard disk, redistribute it or alter it.
NOTE: to deter hackers, Scorch 2 contains top-level
security measures with encrypted passwords for each score. Also all sheet music
is printed with our footer, to discourage from illegally reproducing the score
by alternative methods.
Credit card security:
We know of no documented cases of credit card fraud
using our shopping system over the Internet. All credit card numbers are encrypted
in the software when the order is placed using 128 bit encryption. Your card
details are transmitted directly to the bank for authorisation and crediting,
so no-one in our organisation can see them.
I've tried making a transaction, but I keep getting
'Card Declined' messages.
This could be because:
- There's a problem with your account information.
Please ensure that all required fields are filled out correctly. If you are
in the US or Canada, ensure that the correct state code has been entered in
the state field.
- The credit card you used is invalid or there are
not enough funds available.
- You made a mistake entering the card number or
expiry date.
- You tried to use a card that we do not accept.
Please try again. If you repeatedly get this message
and are convinced that you are doing everything right, please tell us at
helpdesk@boosey.com.
We regret that we cannot take alternative payment methods.
I've tried making a transaction, but I keep getting
'System Error' or other error messages.
This means that there is some communication problem
between our server and your computer. Please let us know immediately by emailing
us at helpdesk@boosey.com
with your name and the time you made your attempted transaction.
I've mistakenly made a duplicate transaction.
How do I ensure that my card is only charged once, since I only want the sheet
music once?
When you make a transaction, your card is authorised
by the bank. However, the money does not actually leave your account until we
say so. So if you have made a duplicate transaction, just let us know. Assuming
you have not printed out the sheet music for this transaction, we will not charge
your card for it.
I want to cancel my order. How do I?
If you have failed to get a print out of the sheet
music, just email helpdesk@boosey.com
including, if you can, your receipt key (e.g.. KKJDHWYGTFDFGTDT) and the email
address you gave when you set up your account.
What do I do when the sheet music does not appear
on screen and I get the message 'The score did not load successfully. Please
try viewing the page again'.
If this happens with all sheet music on this site
then you probably have not installed Scorch 2.Click
here to start installation. If it is only
happening with one or two pieces of music then you should contact us
helpdesk@boosey.com
telling us which scores you cannot see.
The notes don't look right on screen. How do I solve the problem?
Delete all Opus and Inkpen fonts from your computer's
font folder (on Windows PCs this is always Start Menu\Settings\Control Panel\Fonts),
then reboot, then try installing Scorch 2 again. The notes should now appear
correctly on-screen. If Windows tells you you cannot delete some of these fonts,
restart your computer, then immediately delete the fonts without starting any
programs, then re-install Scorch 2.
